Dr. Jie Song of Saphlux Speaks at ICDT 2026 on Micro-LED Innovation and Commercialization
From March 31 to April 3, 2026, the International Conference on Display Technology (ICDT 2026) was held in Chongqing. Saphlux, a global leader in silicon-based AR µLED microdisplay technologies, was represented by Dr. Jie Song, Vice President of Technology, who participated in key sessions and chaired discussions on key topics alongside industry experts.
Marking its 10th anniversary, ICDT 2026 was co-organized by SID China and Fuzhou University, bringing together more than 2,000 participants from leading universities, research institutes, and companies worldwide. The event featured over 90 forums and more than 1,000 presentations, covering developments across the display technology ecosystem and providing a platform for exchange between academia and industry.
On April 2, Dr. Song delivered an invited talk at the “Micro-LED Color Technology (EMQ-Micro-LED)” session titled “Technology Trends in Full-Color Micro-LED Displays for AR: The NPQD Monolithic Solution.” He outlined key trends in full-color Micro-LED displays for AR and introduced Saphlux’s NPQD® monolithic integration approach, noting its performance in improving efficiency, enhancing color uniformity, and supporting scalable AR applications.
With nearly two decades of experience in gallium nitride (GaN) research, Dr. Song also chaired the “Mass Transfer, Bonding & Repair” session, leading discussions on key technical challenges and future directions, with a focus on cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Saphlux has developed full-stack Micro-LED capabilities, addressing key challenges in nanoporous GaN epitaxy, in-situ quantum dot integration, and silicon-based wafer hybrid bonding. The company has achieved mass production of 6-inch semi-polar GaN wafers and is expanding into Micro-LED light communication, leveraging the material’s inherent advantages in high-speed response to deliver bandwidth performance nearly four times higher than conventional solutions. In addition, Saphlux has introduced multiple Micro-LED products for AR/VR and commercial display applications and has contributed to the establishment of the world’s first group standard for photoluminescent quantum dot Mini/Micro-LED technologies.
Looking ahead, Saphlux will continue to advance its core technologies, with a focus on NPQD® innovation and commercialization, while strengthening global ecosystem collaboration and accelerating the large-scale adoption of Micro-LED to support the coordinated development of the display and light communication industries and the continued growth of the global display industry.
